Inflammation is a very important subject because if not properly controlled, it can have a negative effect on your health. That is why in my book Eat Your Ass Off…Literally, I dedicated an entire chapter to chronic inflammation and how it can be slowly killing you from the inside out.
In the medical community, we now have a better understanding of how chronic inflammation plays a significant role in the disease process. It is becoming increasingly clear that most illnesses, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancers, high blood pressure, autoimmune disorders, and even Alzheimer’s are influenced in large part by chronic inflammation.
Chronic inflammation is a process in which the immune system becomes out of balance and continually tries to repair the body and repel pathogens in response to a stimulus. Prolonged inflammation then starts to damage healthy tissues as well. Stress, lack of exercise and other lifestyles of poor living can promote inflammation, but a toxic diet filled with offending foods and products is the main stimulating factor to chronic inflammation.
The definition of Chronic inflammation is: “A pathological condition, characterized by concurrent active inflammation, tissue destruction, and attempts at repair.”
Since the inflammation is occurring on a repeated, continual basis, it is important to understand that chronic inflammation is coming from the diet. Unless you get hit by a car each week or play professional football, chronic inflammation is not coming from external physical trauma. The repetitive inflammatory stimulus is happening internally at each meal. If you add junk food snacks, medications, excessive alcohol and high stress, to the mix, you will have an internal wildfire. Each person has an active role in creating their chronic inflammation by eating highly inflammatory foods and products on a daily basis. However, many people do not realize it is their dietary choices that can be creating the inflammatory response.
The good news is chronic inflammation can be reduced and resolved with a diet that promotes the natural anti-inflammatory properties within your body. The reduction and resolution of chronic inflammation can help improve other symptoms of inflammation such as chronic joint pains, headaches, fatigue and even depression. By making changes to your dietary habits like the ones I recommend in Eat Your Ass Off…Literally, your body will reward you for making the change with less aches and pains and more energy.
